About Emilio Goeldi
Emilio Augusto Goeldi, born in Switzerland (1859-1917), was a zoologist and naturalist hired by the Brazilian Imperial Museum at the age of 21 in 1884. In Rio de Janeiro, which was then the capital of Brazil, he conducted studies on various branches of the Brazilian fauna. In 1893, he moved with his family to Belém do Pará, in the northern region of the country, and transformed the Paraense Museum into one of the country's most respected research institutions, which was later named the Emilio Goeldi Paraense Museum in his honour.
